452 square feet
Completed in April 2010 using the Xero Flor extensive green roof system, 12 lbs per square foot
The Atwood Family chose a green roof to improve the building’s energy efficiency, prolong the lifespan of their roof membrane and to reduce the environmental footprint of their home. The green roof also improves air quality, reduces the urban heat island effect, helps with storm water retention and provides more green space for biodiversity. As an architect Mark Atwood wanted to also test the performance and benefits to be able to better serve his clients. The XF301 system is a pre-grown sedum carpet which is grown outdoors, easy to install and economical. It requires fertilization once a year and very little overall maintenance. The Atwood residence green roof will be featured in the East Coast Living magazine in Fall 2010.
