Sundridge, Ontario
400 square foot
Completed in May 2009.
The Glen Bernard rooftop perimeter is covered with the Xero Flor lightweight extensive system weighing in at 10 lbs per square foot, saturated.
The rest of the rooftop is a vegetable garden comprised of the XF202 green roof system with 8“ of medium weighing 48 lbs per square foot, saturated.
Not only does the green roof cool the building and reduce the building’s environmental footprint, it provides camp participants the opportunity to plant and grow their own herbs and vegetables. Teachers have based lesson plans on sustainable development focusing on energy efficiency, stormwater management and food-production, ie cultivating and growing their own food.
“The extensive portion is performing very well. There is no dieback at all. The intensive garden portion also worked out great. The kids experienced the process of planting and harvesting and eating the peas and tomatoes and edible flowers. We are looking forward to enjoying it again this summer.”

"Xero Flor is awesome. The service was awesome. They showed up on time. We’re in a remote location 3 hours north of Toronto. They were and continue to be very helpful."
