Green roofs will be required on certain new buildings in Toronto starting January 31, 2010 after city council recently voted 36-2 for the most comprehensive green roof rules of any city in North America.

Xero Flor’s Guinness World Record
Largest 'Living' Roof
The roof of the Ford Motor Company's Rouge factory in Dearborn, Michigan, USA, has had 454,000 ft,(42,180 m') of the Xero Flor extenstive green roof planted on it, making it the world’s largest 'living' roof.
Planted in 3” (7.6 cm) thick patented mats, the vegetation insulates the roof, saving on heating costs. lt also lasts longer than conventional roofing as it doesn't expand or contract when temperatures change.
